Cobra - Purple Heart
Another Lois Ventura design. The wood is purple heart, one of my favorites.
To inhibit the eventual color change to brown, I used Teak Oil (seven coats) which contains added UV filters for protection against fading from sunlight. Then it was waxed using the Beall Buffing System.

Flame Birch
This is a flame birch box with a birds-eye maple top. The ribbon handle is a combination of cherry with Quina as the outside lamination, and was wrapped and recessed into the box sides. Quina was also used for the corner points. A majority of the wood is from Maine, except of course for the Quina…

Cigar Pens
These are Cigar style pens done in the classic cigar shape with no embellishments.
The kit is the Berea Black Chrome Cigar Kit, one from cherry wood and from Acrylic Acetate. The kit was very nice and made for a relatively heavy pen, very montblanc, they feel quite substantial and give a good qua…

Navigator Pen in Mother of Pearl
Navigator screw top with a screw post for the cap when using the pen. Its done with a tropical blank.
This blank is a mother of pearl which was EXTREMELY delicate, and you had to be sure not to cut through the coating our you would destroy the blank. The pictures really don't do the shine and pea…

Stars and Stripes Barron Pen
This is a flag pen, you buy the laser cut kit and assemble the blank and then turn the blank.
In this one each star was a separate laser cut part that you had to glue into the cap and the red strips had to be glued into the base. Lots of CA to fill voids, occasional wood patch to level, etc. A…

Texas Ebony
This pepper mill is made from a piece of Texas Ebony. It stands about 10" tall and about 2" in diameter.
It is a combination of sap and heartwood which gives it the distinct two color pattern. The wood is hard and very dense, and reportedly oily or waxy (although I did not notice that). It turned…

Figured Mesquite Pepper Mill
This is a pepper mill made from a piece of figured mesquite.
Its about 8" tall and 2.5" in diameter. This was my first attempt at not having a break at the junction of the head and body. Normally you can hide any non concentric issues in a style line but in this style you can't. I used a natur…

Simple Magazine Rack
This is a simple knock down chair side magazine rack that I made for our RV. The two pieces slip apart to store flat when not in use.
This started out as a 4.5" wide 48" long section of black walnut. I split the walnut down the middle and cut the 4 long sections and 4 short sections. If you look…
